Kite Surfers at sunset, Cable Beach.
Cable Beach Sunset (60K)2 April 2004
Yup - it's like this every day on Cable Beach. Erm... at last the two days I was here!
Cable Beach Sunset (27K)2 April 2004
Even after the sun is gone, the view's still pretty impressive. I recall sitting watching this, having a beer and eating a couple of real nice tuna steaks. Hmmmmmmm.
Bushcamp Sunrise (66K)4 April 2004
Sunrise somewhere in WA, after the first night of bushcamping.
Remote Valley (156K)
4 April 2004
Walking through caves somewhere close to Pinnacle Creek, we came across this valley.
Above the Caves (109K)4 April 2004
Bushwalking close to Pinnacle Creek, this is the view from atop a cave system that we treked through, then climbed above.
Creek Gang (156K)4 April 2004
Follow the guide? Down this creek? Nah - I don't think so. The other guys we see here obviously didn't feel the same way.
Firewood Collection (119K)4 April 2004
Collecting firewood, off road somewhere in WA.
Mary Pool Camp (164K)4 April 2004

Another beautiful sunset in the bush.
Mary Pool Sunrise (76K)5 April 2004
Another beautiful sunrise in the bush.
Caroline Pool (84K)5 April 2004
Caroline pool is another nice swimming hole. These were frequently visited due to the lack of showers on this trip. Actually, this was one of the dirtiest places we swam, there was sadly a lot of litter around here apparantly left by the locals.
Old Stone Hut (141K)5 April 2004
It's exactly what it says on the tin... an old stone hut. Located way out in the bush some way from Halls Creek.
Sawpit Swimming (132K)5 April 2004
Sawpit gorge has a rather nice swimming hole - where we relaxed before lunch today.
Palm Springs (118K)5 April 2004
Palm Springs is a small swimming hole in the bush somewhere close to Halls Creek.
China Wall (105K)5 April 2004
China Wall, in the bush close to Halls Creek, isn't really a wall at all. This is a layer of quartz protruding from softer sedimentary rock.
Black Headed Python (87K)5 April 2004
Feral Rob and a real life, outback snake of the Black Headed Python variety. Spotted someway down the road whilst we were collecting firewood this evening. NB: Don't pick up moving sticks!
Outback Spa (88K)6 April 2004
Water running under this roadway creates a rather nice swirling and girgling spa effect. Given the lack of showers around here (like - we hadn't seen one since leaving Broome) this was welcome, as was the wilderness wash Rob had to hand.

This was actually located near our campsite of the previous night, at Leycesteos.

Bungle Canyon (91K)6 April 2004
As well as the more famous 'behives' here at Bungle Bungle National Park, there are a number of huge canyons.
Bungle Behives (108K)6 April 2004
The famouse 'behives' of Bungle Bungle National Park.

Bushwalking in the gorge known as The Grotto, close to Wyndham, WA.
Grotto Pool (117K)6 April 2004
The pool at a gorge known as The Grotto. There's a rather cool rope swing here that has an arch a metre of two above the water - great fun.
Kimberly Sunrise (55K)7 April 2004
Sunrise just off the Gibb River Road, Kimblery, WA.
Kimberly Sunrise (73K)7 April 2004
Sunrise (but looking west) just off the Gibb River Road, Kimblery, WA.
Emma Gorge Fall (127K)7 April 2004
The very impressive waterfall here at Emma Gorge. The water here was pretty cold though, but the setting awsome - shame I just don't have a wide enough angle lense to get the rest of the sheer walls that surrounded this pool.
Gibb Road Gang (87K)7 April 2004
Silly photo pose #1 ;-)

Note to RTA: Nope, we didn't change the sign, just picked various phrases out of the box of spares then replaced them.

Ivanhoe Crossing (98K)7 April 2004
Hmmmm... so remind us why the Ivanhoe crossing was closed again? Raging water covering the road.
Mirima Lookout (87K)
7 April 2004
We can clearly see from this shot why Mirima National Park (close to Kununurra) earns it's name of the mini Bungle Bungles.
Lake Argyl (53K)
7 April 2004
Overlooking a tiny portion of Lake Argyl from the lookout close to town.
Lake Argyl Swimming (153K)8 April 2004
Swimming and jumping into Lake Argyl from around 6.5m. Rob is in full flight here, and don't worry, in no danger as the lake is apparantly 40m plus depth here. Sadly my watch was lost seconds after this picture was taken and will be ticking away nicly on the bottom for another 10 years. Yup - it just had a new battery fitted :(
Lake Argyl Boating (100K)8 April 2004
Relaxing on a boat while cruising Lake Argyl.

Feral Rob (our guide) and Katerine (hostie) in a very patriotic mood.
Edith Falls (167K)10 April 2004
Lake Leilyn, within Nitmiluk National Park. The falls (Edith Falls) on the other side of this lake are larger than they look, and the amount of water flowing from them through the lake made for a real strong current.
Moline Falls (155K)11 April 2004
Moline Falls and the small swimming hole they drop into. This is actually just outside Kakadu National Park.
Gunlom Rob (130K)11 April 2004
Rob standing at the top of Gunlom falls. See the pool just visible below? That's where the other picture of Gunlom on this site was taken from? And yeah - slipping over here wouldn't have been a smart move ;-)

Driving in Kakadu at this time of year often involves a little river crossing.
Mamukala Wetlands (111K)12 April 2004
The Mamukala wetlands (Kakadu NP) are famous for thier bird life. Erm... not at the end of the wet season though. Come back in a few months when this is the only water to be had for miles around and I'm told it's a totally different story.

Sunset from Anzac Hill, here in Alice Springs.
Mt Conner. (91K)18 April 2004
Mt Conner is a huge monolith (erm... I think) formed when a layer of harder rock was deposited on some softer stuff, that was therefore protected from errosion when the rest of the land around was washed away. Erm... or something like that.

Rob trying hard not to look worried whilst posing at the edge of a 100m cliff. Oh, minus sunnies - that's why I look this way really ;-)
Kings Canyon Group (104K)20 April 2004
Apparantly the 'boys' from the Priscilla movie (you know the one I mean) took up this pose, so silly tourist tradition dictates we do the same.

Luckily this also gives you an idea of the huge scale of this place - again, we're standing by the edge of a 100m plus cliff.

Finke River (95K)20 April 2004
Wild horses at dusk by the Finke River, which happens to be the oldest river in the world, and the site of our camp this evening.
Palm Valley (89K)21 April 2004
Palm Valley, close to the Finke River. Very nice.
