7 August 2005 Well - this is New Zealand after all?The local deer park (who's name I forget) doesn't just contain deer.
10 August 2005 Why Cardrona is the best ski field in this area.
13 August 2005 The mainstreet in Arrowtown. Sleepy little ex-mining village.
13 August 2005 Lake Hayes, between Arrowtown and Queenstown. There's a swimming platform here but don't think I'd even be game in the height of summer!

15 August 2005 Why Treble Cone is one of the most picturesque places to ski. With their new lift in the saddle bowl it's also getting a lot better field too. |
15 August 2005 The... erm... hotel at Cardrona (the village, not up on the hill).

19 August 2005 The Duke of Marlborough - apparently the oldest licensed hotel in New Zealand.
19 August 2005 Another stoney beach - this time at Russell, looking out over the Bay of Islands.
19 August 2005 The church at Russell, apparently the oldest in New Zealand.
19 August 2005 A rather unusual tourist attraction. Inside the Hundertwasser Toilets (male of course) here in Kawakawa. Designed by the Austrian artist Frederick Hundertwasser.

19 August 2005 We walked part of a track that runs from Opua to Paihia. There's some nice views here, of which this is one.
19 August 2005 We walked part of a track that runs from Opua to Paihia. Here's some mangroves very close to the Paihia end.
20 August 2005 There's a huge Maori waka (war canoe) here at Waitangi, requiring 80 rowers to power it apparently. You can't really get an idea of the size from looking at the boat so here's the stump of the tree it was hewn from.
20 August 2005 The Maori meeting house here at Waitangi.
20 August 2005 More detail of the carvings within the Maori meeting house here at Waitangi.
20 August 2005 So, you're driving about Northland in New Zealand, thinking how the place is a lot like the more remote areas of Scotland. When all of a sudden the coast looms large with huge sand dunes like this. Not very Scotland at all!
20 August 2005 Waiting for the sun to set on Baylys Beach. Just kick back and relax and watch all the 4WDers playing. Yeah, this is recognised as a legal highway!
20 August 2005 So, we sat around on the beach for an hour or so, eating peanuts and waiting for the sun to set. Ah... such a hard task and so worth the wait.
21 August 2005 The duck pond within the Auckland Domain.
21 August 2005 Inside the winter garden at the Auckland Domain. It's a bit small, but packed with colour.
21 August 2005 Some of the colours that abound in Auckland Domain's winter garden.
|
21 August 2005 There's a public park here in Auckland called, 'One Tree Hill Domain'. That's a bit weird though, 'cos at the top of the hill (giving these views over the city) there's no tree at all. OK, OK - apparently there was a tree up here before it died. |
