On the trip up to Palm and Whale beach you will pass Pittwater on the left hand side of the road. This is a pretty calm stretch of water, by virtue of the narrow channel out to the sea at its northern end, apparently very popular with Sydney boat owners on day trips. But unless you bring your boat on a trailer (or of course moor here - as you can see many people do), to get here it's a short (maybe 20km) run out of the main harbour heads and north up to Pittwater's entrance.
